Educational activity of the Center includes training of researchers in post-graduate and doctorate programs, clinical residency in such specialities “Obstetrics and Gynecology”, “Neonatology”, “Anesthesiology and Resucitation”, holding and participating in Russian and international congresses, conferences and seminars, practical training of specialists in the departments of the Center on topical issues in obstetrics, gynecology and neonatology, introduction of new forms and methods of education.
In 2000, the Department of Obstetrics, Gynecology and Perinatology of the Faculty of Postgraduate Education of I.M. Sechenov Moscow Medical Academy was organized and found its basis in the Center. Professor G.T. Sukhikh is the Head of the Department. The Academic Council and the Dissertation Council of the Center are responsible for development and defense of dissertations for academic degrees of doctors and candidates of medical sciences in obstetrics and gynecology. Only in recent years about 200 specialists have received doctoral and postgraduate education, over 400 physicians (obstetricians, gynecologists and neonatologists) have been trained in clinical internship. Each year more than 6700 physicians from various regions of Russia are trained at special seminars in the departments of the Center.
Mission of Simulation-Training Center is improvement of quality of medical care in Russia and abroad, through efficient system of professional development of medical specialists.
Main tasks of Simulation-Training Center are:
- Determining gaps of medical training;
- Implementation of simulation and training technologies medical education;
- Evaluation of efficiency of medical training;
- Development of learning models for medical specialists;
- Educating of teachers/trainers for simulation and training centers.
All personnel and trainers of the Simulation-Training Center are competent and skilled medical specialists.
At present, educative simulation and training technologies are successfully applied in the field of obstetrics and gynecology, neonatology, and anesthesiology and resuscitation.
Along with training of doctors from various regions of Russia, Simulation-Training Center holds international educational seminars “Ways of reducing of infant mortality” in the frame of the Muskoka Initiative. Since 2012, 420 doctors from 20 countries underwent training in the center (Angola, Botswana, India, Indonesia, Mongolia, Myanma, Sao Tome and Principe, Peru, Sudan,Chad, Ethiopia, Nicaragua, Ethiopia, Namibia, Afghanistan, Vietnam, Uzbekistan, Kyrgyzstan, Tajikistan, Moldova, and Armenia). More than 60 lectors took part in each course (every course contained 3 seminars, 72 hrs each) and lectors from Great Britain, France, Japan, Italy, Spain and Canada attended at seminars as invited experts.
The advanced telecommunication system of the Center provides for audio-visual communication of the network abonents and information exchange. The videoconferencing system includes control center with the innovative equipment, situation room, five video-conference halls (for 600, 200, 150, 120, 50 seats), simulation and training center (4 classes), operating suites.
The Center provides:
- Clinicodiagnostic consultations,
- Managerial, educational, scientific and awareness-raising activities in the field of obstetrics, gynecology, neonatology, realized with the use of telecommunications technologies ("medicine at a distance").
The Telemedicine Center plays an important role in the development of international cooperation. The video conferences involve participants from facilities as the National Institutes of Health (NIH) and the authority clinics of the United States, France, Belgium, UK, Spain, Germany and other countries. The center collaborates with the leading clinics in all of Russia, and establishes professional interaction in the frame of various international projects. An example of the successful use of telemedicine is educational program of reducing maternal and infant mortality through Simulation-training using the telecommunications system of the Centre.
This modern information center provides access to the printed and electronic information sources, networks and databases. Annual paper-based new acquisitions include about 200 copies of books, over 60 periodicals, one-third of which are issued by foreign publishing houses, and dozens of new dissertations and abstracts.
One of advanced directions of providing the scientific and medical community, teachers, graduate students and interns with relevant and operational information is subscription to electronic resources and databases such as the Cochrane Database of Systematic Reviews, magazines and books of the leading world publishers (Elsevier, Lippincott Williams Wilkins &, Karger, Springer, Wiley, etc.), and scientific electronic library (eLibrary) accessible from any computer at the Center.
The resource centre is open to visit not only for the staff of the Centre, but also for researchers and doctors of research institutes, universities, perinatal centers of Russia and other countries. The visitors are free to use a modern computer room, a reading hall, and a teleconference hall.
